[Archive] LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of A Wolf at the Door

K.A. Stewart has a BA in English with an emphasis in Literature from William Jewell College. She lives in Missouri with her husband, daughter, one cat, and one small furry demon that thinks it's a cat.

A Wolf at the Door, book #3 of the JESSE JAMES DAWSON series
Author:  K.A Stewart

Synopsis:

STAR STRUCK

Jesse James Dawson was once an ordinary man until he discovered that demons were real, and fighting them meant putting his own soul on the line. His new case is a beauty: Gretchen Keene, a Hollywood starlet who's become an unwitting catalyst in an all-out demon war. It's not her soul Jesse needs to protect, but the two-hundred-and-seventy-six others she's carting around--all the souls sold to spend just one night with the blonde bombshell. That's a lot of baggage, although it might explain her meteoric rise to fame. And it's all up for grabs by the demon world.

All Jesse has to do is keep her safe until New Years. Sounds easy. But darkness is casting a nasty shadow in the California sun--a new unseen enemy is closing in and leaving Jesse to wonder, how do you fight something you can't see coming?

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Shawnie:

Jesse James Dawson was an ordinary human - with a black belt in karate, until his brother stepped into something he couldn't get out of alone. Now five years after it all started Jesse is a bonafide Champion of Souls, mentoring under Ivan Zelenko. He has been through more in the last few years of his life, than most people go through in their entire lives and still he keeps going. He is a true good guy in all sense of the words; he lives it, breaths it and he wouldn't have it any other way. Except maybe to keep his now growing family safe, nothing is more important to him, than his family.

In the third installment of this series, Jesse's personal Demon Axel is cashing in his one and only favor which takes our hero on a journey to L.A. to protect a women who sold her soul to be the starlet she is. To make matters even more complicated he has 267 other souls to protect - souls that were sold to spend an evening with the beautiful and stunning Gretchen Keene. Now we all know, demons never tell you the whole story. All Jesse knows is that he has to keep her safe until New Year's - piece of cake right? NOT! There is a loophole in the young starlets contact and every demon is after his knew charge and they won't stop until the have all the souls she has collected in her rise to fame.

Gretchen is turning Jesse's view of her on his ass, she is nothing like what he expected. She is tough and smart, she doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit her in some way but its always a two way street. I have to say she was one of my favorite characters, to get to know. But Something Jesse can't explain is after them and its gunning for Jesse because let's face it killing Jesse is the priority, he is the real threat. He is what stands in the way of the demons getting Gretchen and the souls she carries around on her.

But how can he fight something that can change it shape at will? How do you fight something that you know nothing about? Who exactly is pulling the strings here and how much will the end result affect out hero? Those are the questions that will plague your mind, but remember the most least expecting person may surprise you.

I HONESTLY LOVED THIS BOOK AND I PLAN TO CONTINUE READING STEWART'S BOOKS.

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SERIES BY ALL MEANS PICK IT UP AND START IT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED..
